To be clear, I have retired. I am currently not seeking new grad students in my lab.

I am an associate professor emeritus in Computer Science and have been at the University of Idaho since 1999, retiring in May of 2022. Before that I worked at Hewlett-Packard for 15 years working in areas from HP calculator software, to LISP compilers, and UNIX development environments. I also spent a brief period as a private consultant. I generally teach courses in Introduction to Programming, UNIX, Programming Languages, Algorithms, Compilers, Bioinformatics, Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary Computation, and Machine Learning. My research areas are in evolution theory with an emphasis on epistasis and optimization, opinion dynamics, transfer learning, evolutionary robotics, and game theory.
