Katie is an adventuresome, talkative and very people oriented Pembroke Corgi pup born Sep 14, 1998 to Gus and Pixie. She has been living with Robert and Marilyn since Nov 22 of 1998. Kate is now 4087 days (583.9 weeks/134.4 months) old.

She is an AKC registered Pembroke Welsh Corgi with the full formal name of Windy Oaks Kiss Me Kate. She is named for the line in Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew" and along the "kiss" theme of her mother Pixie. The Windy Oaks Kennel is in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She in fact has a limited registration due a rare discoloration of the iris but she can compete in all events except conformation.

She is just discovering how much fun walks can be if you don't get upset at the leash. She also has discovered that gnawing on poor Banff the cat can be fun.

Stories

Puppies and Babies

It seems that the mental development of puppies proceeds like that of babies. When they are small they never smile. It is something they begin to do after 4 months or so. It takes them awhile to know that when you throw something and they no longer see it, it is really still there. Finally, they don't understand action at a distance. A stumbling block for puppies learning to ring the bell to go out is the bell is not the door. Why is it that when you ring the bell over here the door opens over there. As they get older they figure all this out. It is interesting to watch.

The Stairs

In our house, there was a set of stairs to the second story. There was also an identical set of stairs to the basement. Kate knows how to go up stairs but not down. We were trying to teach her to go up and down stairs on the upper set of stairs. She finally got it. We were so proud. Later that day I thought I would try it on the lower set of stairs. I put myself at the bottom of the lower set of stairs and called to her. Much to my surprise she ran away. I went upt to see where she had gone and she was standing at the top of the other flight of stairs. She smiled at me and ran down the stairs... just like she had done in practice. Then she looked up at me wanting a treat.

Blowing Bubbles

So my wife and I were laying in bed. Kate sleeps in the same room and has a bowl of water there. We are reading and there is this sound like someone blowing bubbles into their drink. When I look over at Kate, she is blowing bubbles into her water dish and having a great time! I later see her doing this in her other water dish and then notice that what she is doing is nipping at her reflection and then diving in after it.
